Nicole Nielsen. An 18ct Gold Open Face Chronograph Regulator Dial Pocket Watch Retailed By Watherston & Son, 12 Pall Mall London. C1875.

Dial: The superb white enamel dial signed Watherston 12 Pall Mall London. The Regulator Dial with Roman hour dial at twelve o'clock, subsidiary seconds dial at six o'clock and the minute outer track. The original blued steel hand for the hour dial, the minute hand for the outer track and the two chronograph hands one for timing and one for recording the minutes elapsed. A very rare composition indeed.

Case: The heavy 18ct yellow gold case with plain back. The single snap on case back, typical of Nicole Nielsen's watches, opens to reveal the movement. The case is fully Englished Hallmarked for London 1875.

Movement: The exquisite gilt metal three quarter plate movement with Patent Nicole Nielsen winding system and chrongraph mechanism on the backplate. The fully jewelled movement signed by the retailer, with compensation balance blued overcoil hairspring and slow fast regulation. The chronograph mechanism was operated by depressing the winding crown once to start, once to stop and once to reset the chronograph hand and the minute recorder hand.

The watch is not signed Nicole Nielsen but it is only signed by the retailer which was common practise at the time. The movemt is typical of Nicole Nielsen's fine inventive craftsmanship.
