Eugene Le Coultre. An 18ct Yellow Gold Keyless Lever Half Hunter Pocket Watch C1880.

Dial: This very rare dial having black enamel with gold coloured Roman numeral and out gold minute track with gold Arabic numerals at five minute intervals. The subsidiary seconds dial with gold coloured seconds track with Arabic numerals at 10 second intervals. The original gold coloured spade hands with matching seconds hand. The dial is unsigned.

Case: This solid 18ct yellow gold half hunter case with engraved and black enamelled Roman numerals to the front cover. The back of the case has a beautifully engraved monogram. The inner case has an exhibition back so that the movement is visable. The inside of the case back is engraved, Eug LeCoultre Rue Bonivard 8 Geneve. The cases are all Swiss Hallmarked numbered and stamped with the case maker JL.

Movement: The exquisite quality of the movement shows the true Swiss craftsmanship by this emminent watchmaker. The compensation balance, blued steel hairspring with straight line lever escapement and wolfs tooth winding.

Eugène Lecoultre (1819-1882) was a highly respected watchmaker and designer from Geneva, known for his work with intricate horological complications, particularly perpetual calendars and chronographs. This watch is rare as very few pocket watches were produced with Bleack enamel dials. This watch comes with it's original box showing that it was sent to American and retailed by Spalding & Co Chicago.
