S. Katz Geneve. A Rare Heavy 18ct Yellow Gold Half Hunter Minute Repeater Pocket Watch. C1890.

Dial: The excellent white enamel dial with slim Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds dial at six o'clock. The original gold coloured double spade hands with blued steel subsidiary seconds hand. The dial is unsigned.

Case: The very heavy (151grms) 18ct yellow gold half hunter case with raised gold outer ring engraved with Roman numerals and inlaid with blue enamel. The back of the case is engined turned. The inner case is signed S. Katz Geneve with a beautiful description of the workings of the watch. The cases are all Swiss hallmarked and numbered. The repeater slide is at the side of the case and the hand set lever is inside the inner front cover at four o'clock.

Movement: The superb nickel finished movement with compensation balance, blued steel spiral hairspring, slow fast regulation and wolfs tooth winding. The fully jewelled movement with screwed in chatons right to the centre abor. The hammers and gongs are visible and strike the hours, quarters and minutes clearly. The movementis under a protective glass.

This minute repeater is an excellent example of Swiss watchmaking craftsmanship at it's finest in the late C19th Century . S. Katz was a small independent watchmaker and therefore he was not so well know or documented. Never the less this is a very fine Minute Repeater pocket watch with it's original wooden box.
